Visit to Arlington National Cemetery, Amaya and Lilly with their maternal Great Grandmother, Granny
Lee Mansion: 1100 acres originally belonging to George Washington was left to his (1 of2) adopted sons son. (Martha was a widow w/2 kids) The granson was 3 yrs old when he inherited the land. He built this mansion. His daughter married a young Luietenant and they lived here also. His name was Robert E. Lee. a few years later her ran off th=o some silly little war and the wife and kids went to Mount Vernon
(Washingtons Mansion) for saftey. The government ended up with the property, after the war the Lee's couldn't pay the taxes, and it was used as a gov. building. about 900 acres were given to the slaves of the mansion to use as farm land. The rest became our National cemetery with over 300,000 heros laid to rest.
The girl in the blue vest With the "FIFE" is Amaya and Lilly's 2nd cousin Shannon. She has worked hard for years and plays quite well. She performed with the Virginia Fife and Drum Corps at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. It was pretty cool. Afterward we viewed the first ladies dresses, Lincons Hat and Dorothy's ruby slippers.
